Chad military claims victory over rebels in the north

The rebel group Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT) did not respond to a request for comment. The transitional military authorities have previously said they have defeated the rebels only for fighting to continue.

Chad opposition calls for fresh anti-junta protests

Opposition parties and civil society groups in Chad said fresh protests would be held on Saturday against the junta that took power after longtime ruler Idriss Deby Itno died fighting rebels.
"The security forces are thoroughly sweeping the operational area. Most of the prisoners are in the hands of the gendarmerie (police) and are being well-treated. The enemy is fleeing," Defence Minister Brahim Daoud Yaya told a news conference.
