Myanmar military guarantees new election; protesters block train services

Myanmar’s military on Tuesday guaranteed that it would hold an election and hand power to the winner, denying that its ouster of an elected government was a coup and denouncing protesters for inciting violence and intimidating civil servants.
The Lagos State Government has hinted of intensive efforts being made to abort the planned #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest as well as a competing #DefendLagos rally.

Protesters opposed to Myanmar’s military coup blocked train services between Yangon and a southern city on Tuesday, hours after a U.N. envoy warned the army of “severe consequences” for any harsh response to the pro-democracy demonstrations.

Lagos governor orders probe into ‘brutalisation’ of Lekki tollgate protesters

Protesters in Myanmar kept up demands on Monday for the release of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi and an end to military rule, undaunted by the junta’s deployment of armoured vehicles in several parts of the country and more soldiers on the streets.
