Crowds of people rushed to the streets of Monrovia and other towns in Liberia as the country’s National Elections Commission, NEC, announced that George Weah, the candidate of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change, CDC, has won 61.5 per cent of the total votes cast.

Liberia’s NEC suspends run-off election activities

The National Elections Commission of Liberia has suspended electoral activities ahead of the Nov. 7 run-off presidential elections in compliance with an order of the country’s Supreme Court halting the process.

According to the initial results released by NEC, the total valid votes counted so far amount to 349,357, out of a total of 371,378. The difference between these two figures constitutes the invalid votes, amounting to 22,021 (5.93%).
