Scientists observe evidence of water ice on moon’s surface

For the first time, scientists have directly observed definitive evidence of water ice on the moon’s surface, U.S. space agency NASA has said.

NASA's rover Curiosity rover tooling around on the surface of Mars has found remnants of an ancient freshwater lake. There is no water left in it, but drill tests and a chemical analysis of its fine-grained rocks by the Curiosity robot's science instruments suggest microbial life could have thrived there billions of years ago. Located under a layer of Martian ice, the lake is vast, spanning about 12 miles (20 kms) wide, and raises the possibility that more water, and maybe even life exists on Earth's neighboring planet, said the report in the US journal Science. / AFP PHOTO / NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS / HO /

First lake of liquid water is discovered on Mars

A massive underground lake has been detected for the first time on Mars, raising the possibility that more water -- and maybe even life -- exists there, international astronomers said Wednesday.
