Nigeria has finally received its first batch of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines through COVAX — a global initiative that seeks to ensure equitable distribution of the vaccines to all countries.
Prior to the mass vaccination, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and their spouses took the jabs of the vaccines on Monday, March 1.

First coronavirus vaccine doses dispatched by COVAX arrive in Ghana

A flight carrying 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India landed in Ghana’s capital Accra, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), said in a joint statement.
Chairman, Ministerial Expert Advisory Committee on COVID-19, Prof. Oyewale Tomori, has said Nigeria lacked facilities for vaccine trials.
