Wondering what are the upcoming sports tournaments you need to follow? 2018 has a good number of them lined up, whether it be tennis, rugby or the Winter Olympics.

It’s something that has drawn great attention, and for different reasons. For one, it is one of the first Olympics after a really long while that North Korea is participating in. For another, it is one of the first times that Russia isn’t able to send its contingent to the Olympics since they have been banned. Interestingly though, many of their athletes are participating as independent athletes. However, many are not.

Nigeria has some of the greatest athletes today, and whether it be the Winter Olympics, or FIFA U 20 World Cup, we do expect to see some exciting action.

2018 For Nigeria Athletes

2017 was a good year for Nigeria in the field of sports but there is no time for rest because 2018 comes with a booked calendar as well.

There are a number of tournaments scheduled this year in which Nigerian athletes and sportspersons are expected to excel. If you are a sports buff who likes to see his or her country win, then you should stay tuned because these world-class championships are coming your way soon.

FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup:

The Nigerian U-20 team has qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup fifth time in a row, and they are a determined bunch this time. The tournament will be held in France during the month of August.

This young team will look to improve their record this time because they have been beaten twice in the finals previously. We all hope that they bring the trophy home this year breaking the streak of bad luck.

Commonwealth Games:

Nigeria has proved its excellence in this tournament before and is considered to be one of the major superpowers. The Commonwealth Games are held amongst athletes from former British Colonies. The 2018 tournament will take place in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia during April. Nigeria will go in with the expectation of improving its performance further.

Winter Olympics:

Nigeria is a lesser known name in the Winter Olympics community, but that will hopefully change this year onwards. The 2018 edition of the tournament will see the Nigerian flag riding on the shoulders of Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere, and Akuoma Omeoga who make up the Bobsled team of the country.

The tournament will be held in Pyeongchang County, South Korea from February 9th to 25th. This international multi-sport event will keep you on the edge of the seat as you cheer on.

2018 FIFA World Cup:

Nothing can beat the excitement of a FIFA World Cup. The 2018 edition will be held in Russia during the summer months. The Nigerian Super Eagles are the underdogs as they have never managed to overcome the Second Round before this.

However, a change in luck is anticipated because Nigeria is more determined than ever to make a good impression. This time, they have been grouped with Croatia, Argentina, and Iceland which is definitely going to be a tough challenge but not impossible.
