Sergio Ramos has suffered another injury setback, with the defender still yet to play a game for Paris Saint-Germain three months after signing for the club.

Ramos arrived in the French capital on a free transfer after his Real Madrid contract expired at the end of last season, and is one of the club’s higher earners. Despite this considerable investment, Ramos is yet to make any impact on the pitch.

There had been suggestions that he would finally make his PSG debut against Angers on Friday night, only for PSG to confirm that he had suffered a further setback with a calf injury.

Ramos will now undergo a further ten days of individual rehabilitation ahead of a potential return to full training thereafter.

Speaking before the Angers game, Mauricio Pochettino gave an update on the frustrating situation.

“For a football player, being in his situation is not easy,” Pochettino lamented. “He suffers from not being able to play but he is mentally strong. He has the support of the whole club through this moment. We hope to see him soon.”

He added that he had “no doubt that Sergio Ramos will return to his best level.”

Despite being without the vastly experienced defender and several other key names, PSG still managed to defeat Angers 2-1. Their performance was far from convincing in front of their home fans though, with the Parisians going behind in the first half courtesy of an Angelo Fulgini strike.

They hit back after the breakthrough Danilo Pereira and Kylian Mbappe, who converted a penalty three minutes from time to seal all three points. The victory was PSG’s ninth from their opening ten Ligue 1 games and it opened up a nine-point lead over second-place Lens, who have a game in hand.
