Nigeria’s sole representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, Enugu Rangers, will fight for honours against Tunisian sides CS Sfaxien and Etoile Du Sahel, as well as Salitas of Burkina Faso in Group B of the preliminary round of the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup.
The draw ceremony held at the CAF headquarter in Cairo Egypt, indicate that Rangers will begin their campaign on February 3 when they welcome Burkina Faso’s Salitas at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium before travelling to face CS Sfaxien on February 13.
The Flying Antelopes qualified for the group stage of the competition after defeating Bantu FC of Lesotho 4-2 on aggregate, and have remained unbeaten so far after six games in the competition, winning five, with just a draw.
The Enugu based outfit defeated Defence Force of Ethiopia in the preliminary stage before dumping out USM Bel Abbes of Algeria in the first round stage and recently beating Bantu FC of Lesotho in the group stage playoffs to qualify to the group stage.
In group A, Hassania US Agadir of Morocco will battle AS Otoho d’Oyo of Congo, RS Berkane of Morocco and Raja Casablanca of Morocco for a quarter final spot, while group C has Zesco United of Zambia, Al Hilal of Sudan, Asante Kotoko of Ghana and Nkana FC of Zambia.
Group D will see CAF champions’ league drop-outs Gor Mahia of Kenya play Na Hussien Dey of Algeria, Atletico Petroleos of Angola and Zamalek of Egypt for a quarter-final place.
