South Africa international Percy Tau felt that they were unlucky not get the three points against Nigeria on Saturday.

The two African giants shared the spoils after playing to a 1-1 draw in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualification Group E match at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

“We were trying to do everything to win this match. We gave our best it’s unfortunate that we didn’t win the match. We just hope we’ll still qualify. We’ll keep on going,” Tau told SuperSport TV.

Tau, who grabbed an assist, deservedly walked away with the man of the match award after a good display.

“We didn’t want to concede but they are a good side and they managed to score. We came back to score the one goal, we should have pushed for more. But they were very defensive, it was tricky with five defenders at the back,” he continued.

The draw saw Nigeria maintain their lead at the top of the Group E standings and they also qualified for the finals.

On the other hand, second-placed South Africa will need to secure a draw or a win against third-placed Libya away in order to qualify.

The Belgium-based forward is optimistic ahead of Bafana Bafana’s the final Group E match against Libya in March 2019

“We’ll try and push everything when we get to Libya. But I believe the other results will influence the group,” Tau said.

“I think we fought hard today and we can always look at that and how strong we were and take those positives into the next match,” he concluded.
