Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be named as the club’s permanent manager, according to The Sun.

The Old Trafford board have decided to extend the Norwegian coach’s tenure following his 11-match unbeaten streak since replacing Jose Mourinho in December.

Solskjaer had initially been appointed to steady the ship for United until a new manager could be appointed in the summer. The season had appeared to be a write-off at that stage.

But the Red Devils have fought their way back into the top four and Solskjaer is now set to be named as Mourinho’s permanent successor.

United may not announce Solskjaer’s appointment until the end of the season.

Co-chairman Avram Glazer traveled from the USA to watch the 3-0 win over Fulham in London last weekend.

He spoke to Solskjaer in the dressing room after the match and had already spoken to the 45-year-old’s agent, Jim Solbakken, who was in the directors’ box with the United board at Craven Cottage.
