Akwa United moved to the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League following a slim 2-1 win against Sunshine Stars in Uyo on Sunday.
Charles Atshimene gave the home team the lead on 21 minutes, while Sadeeq Yusuf equalised for Sunshine Stars 11 minutes later.
Seth Mayi netted the winning goal for Akwa United in the 72nd minute.
The Promise Keepers occupy top spot on the table with 37 points from 20 games.
Sunshine Stars are now without a win in their last 13 games.
Kano Pillars missed the chance to secure top spot after they conceded a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Warri Wolves in Ozoro.
Auwalu Usman put Pillars ahead two minutes before the hour mark, while Mark Daniel levelled scores for Warri Wolves from the spot four minutes from time.
Kwara United dropped to third poistion on the table following a 2-1 defeat to Nasarawa United in Lafia.
Anas Yusuf scored the curtain raiser for the hosts three minutes after the break with Silas Nwankwo adding the second in the 69th minute.
