Maurizio Sarri slammed a “messy” performance as Juventus fell to a shock 2-1 defeat at struggling Udinese on Thursday night to miss the chance to seal the Serie A title for the ninth time in a row.

Juventus have confirmed the sacking of manager Maurizio Sarri following their elimination from the UEFA Champions League by French side Lyon. The sack decision cost Old Lady €20m.

The Old Lady won their ninth consecutive Serie A title under the former Chelsea and Napoli manager but the board weren’t happy with how he handled the team since his arrival at the club.

In an official statement released by the club, it stated: “Juventus Football Club announces that Maurizio Sarri has been relieved of his post as coach of the First Team,” read the statement.

“The club would like to thank the coach for having written a new page in Juventus’ history with the victory of the ninth consecutive championship, the culmination of a personal journey that led him to climb all the divisions of Italian football.”

The 61-year-old leaves the Old Lady job after 51 competitive matches in-charge, overseeing 34 victories, eight draws and nine defeats. Sarri’s team scored 100 goals and conceded 55, averaging 2.16 points per game.
