Vincent Kompany has called time on his playing career, RSC Anderlecht have announced on Monday.

The 34-year-old will immediately take over as first team head coach on a four-year contract.

An illustrious career saw Kompany spend over 10 years at Manchester City, captaining the club to four Premier League titles.

The centre-back also won two FA Cups and four League Cups before he left England last summer to return to boyhood club Anderlecht. Kompany was supposed to take over then as player-manager, but stepped down from his coaching duties to focus on playing after a poor start to the season.
