Bafana Bafana of South Africa midfielder, Lebohang Maboe, says Bafana Bafana are not likely to sit back when they host Group E leaders Nigeria in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on Saturday.
Bafana go into the game knowing they cannot afford to lose against the resurgent Super Eagle who have collected nine points in their last three matches since that defeat to South Africa at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo last year.
Maboe, 24, who had a fantastic outing in the 6-0 victory over Seychelles in the last international break, is likely to start ahead of Thulani Serero in the number 10 role against the Super Eagles.
“It’s obviously going to be a big game, knowing that we need a point, I think, to qualify. Knowing that they are coming here, I don’t think the coach will want us to sit back and defend,” Maboe told kickoff. com.
“We are playing at home, so we have to use the home advantage and hopefully win the game.”
Maboe was not part of the squad when Bafana beat the Super Eagles 2-0 in the opening group match in Uyo, but now has an opportunity to show the West Africans what he is made of.
A match like this one will also prepare him for Sundowns’ upcoming campaign in the CAF Champions League.
