China announced Thursday the suspension of all domestic football and postponed indefinitely the top-flight Chinese Super League (CSL) season in response to the deadly viral outbreak sweeping the country.

The Kwara Football Association (FA) has renewed its partnership with the organisers of Taiwo Ogunjobi Preseason Tournament known as “Gold Cup”.

An closed door meeting held between the FA and the organisers of the annual preseason championship agreed to stage the championship for the third consecutive time in Ilorin, the Kwara capital.

According to the FA Chairman, Malam Idris Musa, the board will again back this year’s event with a view of making Ilorin the permanent venue for the yearly event.

He disclosed that the late Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi was an astute football administrator who supported his bid in vying for the 2019 FA election to emerge as the FA chairman.

Musa said the FA board would consult with the necessary stakeholders, including the state government, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in organising the tournament.

The flag bearer of the championship, Tunde Shamsudeen, on his part, saluted Kwara FA and other stakeholders for their continuous support.

He said that he was optimistic of hosting a more colourful tournament this time in spite of challenges and would rely on the green light from the government and its partners.

The eight edition of the Championship has been planned to take place from Oct. 29 to Nov. 7, with all games billed for the main bowl of the Kwara Stadium.

Kwara United, Enyimba FC, Kano Pillars, FC Ebedei and a host of others have confirmed interest in participating.
