AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Barcelona’s young talent Riqui Puig on loan, according to reports from SPORT.
Since the dawn of the season, the young midfielder has not had it easy. Despite a positive start under Ronald Koeman, the youngster has played very few minutes since.
Puig has only participated in 74 minutes in four league games so far, which has only gone to prove Koeman’s dislike for him and what might come in the future if he is to continue as the coach of Barcelona.
Immediately upon his arrival, the Dutch manager made it clear to the youngster that he would not see minutes in the season. However, the La Masia star rejected offers to move on loan for two seasons in a row in the hope of proving himself to the new manager.
Mourinho is looking to reinforce his midfield in order to make Roma strong contenders for the title. Given the youngsters lack of minutes at Barcelona, the Italian side have been on the alert to swoop in for any chance to sneak in his signature.
At Roma, Puig would not only garner experience under his belt but also make a solid case to start games in not only the first division league games but also the UEFA conference league.
It remains to be seen how the player responds to these links. The midfielder has been reluctant to leave over the past 24 months. However, the continuous lack of minutes may trigger a change in heart. It would be a golden opportunity for a player ostracised from the primary team.
