Emmanuel Adebayor scored a hat-trick in Istanbul Başakşehir’s 5-1 thrashing of Galatasaray in Saturday’s Turkish Super Lig top-of-the-table encounter.
The Togo international increased his goal tally to seven in 11 top-flight games this campaign as the Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium outfit closed the gap on the Lions at the summit of the Turkish league.
Adebayor’s efforts on Saturday helped him surpass the number of goals he scored in the league last term.
Ghana’s Joseph Attamah opened the scoring for Başakşehir 25 minutes into the encounter before Adebayor doubled the lead in the 42nd minute.
After the restart, Bafetimbi Gomis pulled one back for the Lions before the 33-year-old responded almost immediately with his second goal of the evening.
Adebayor completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 78th minute before second-half substitute Kerim Frei sealed the victory with his 89th-minute effort.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid talisman was later replaced by Mevlut Erdinc late in the encounter.
Istanbul Başakşehir are placed second in the Turkish Super Lig and are levelled on points with leaders Galatasaray, with 26 points from 12 games.
