Odion Ighalo scored his 18th goal in the Chinese Super League today, but his club Changchun Yatai still lost at home to Jiangsu Suning.

Despite his record-breaking goals, Odion Ighalo’s Chinese club Changchun Yatai were today relegated to the lower league, while Mikel Obi’s team, Tianjin Teda, escaped the dreaded drop.

Changchun Yatai, who were without injured Ighalo, fell 2-0 at closest rivals Dalian Yifang to slip down from the Chinese Super League.

They finished on 32 points from 30 matches.

Ighalo netted 21 goals for his team this season after he scored 15 in the previous campaign.

Mikel Obi’s club Tianjin Teda without their injured Nigeria star pulled off a Great Escape on the final day of action even though they lost 5-1 at front runners Guangzhou Evergrande.

They finished on 32 points, but enjoyed a better head-to-head against Changchun Yatai.
