Benin’s preparations for a CHAN 2018 final playoff against Nigeria on Sunday in Cotonou suffered a major setback after a scheduled warm-up game against Cote d’Ivoire was not played.
An unhappy Benin official said: “The friendly against Cote d’Ivoire in Cotonou was not played because Cote d’Ivoire to play another friendly against Niger.”
The Benin team, who parade several Nigerians on their team, have been training ahead of the Nigeria match.
Benin, who eliminated next-door neigbours Togo amid controversies, will welcome the CHAN Eagles to Cotonou on Sunday with the return leg match on August 19 in Kano.
The overall winners will qualify for next year’s CHAN in Kenya.
