Barcelona reject chance to sign Paul Pogba

According to reports from ESPN, Barcalona have been offered the services of their long-sought midfield target Paul Pogba by Manchester United.

Barcelona have turned down the opportunity to sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba after being offered the chance by his agent Mino Raiola.

Pogba, 28, is out of contract at the end of the season and he’s stalling on signing a new deal at Old Trafford.

United are keen to keep the Frenchman and have been in discussions with Raiola over a new long-term deal, with Pogba said to be buoyed by the recent arrivals of Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Nevertheless, with progress being slow over an extension, Pogba is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from January 1st and Spanish publication Sport say Raiola has been in contact with Barcelona to offer the midfielder to the Catalan giants.

Barcelona have shown interest in Pogba in the past, most notably in 2016 when he rejoined United and then again in 2018.

However, the Catalans posted a £470m annual revenue loss last week and their dire financial situation means they’re in no position to sign Pogba.

The midfielder earns around £280,000-a-week at Old Trafford and he could earn up to £400,000-a-week by signing a new deal, which are figures that Barcelona cannot stretch to at this moment in time.

In fact, Barcelona are keen to continue to reduce their wage bill after the exits of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, therefore putting them out of the running for Pogba.

Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are all interested in signing Pogba, while he’s open to staying at Old Trafford.
