Alhaji Gero has cancelled his three-year contract with top Iranian club Esteghal and said he hopes to return to play in Europe.
He confirmed that he is now a free agent and will decide on his next destination after the Christmas festivities.
“I have cancelled my contract with Esteghal and I am back in Europe,” said the 25-year-old Gero, who now holds a Swedish passport.
“I want to play again in Europe, where my family is.
“At the moment I just wish to take it easy till after the New Year before I take a decision on my career.”
The former Enugu Rangers star has played in Sweden and Denmark.
In a social media post, Gero further said: “It has been amazing experience playing for one of the best teams in Asia.
“Thanks everyone for my time in Iran and Esteghal FC. Wish you all the best in the future.”
