The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it is amazed over some alleged frivolous claims credited to certain leaders of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in which it said the ruling party expressed confidence that its scorecard in 2019 would be that it cleared the PDP’s mess.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, in Abuja on Sunday, the leading opposition party said with a minus zero achievement, the APC could not hope to win the 2019 general election.
“We ask, how can a minus zero scorecard translate to confidence for winning elections? How convenient! It’s therefore very obvious that the APC is still stuck with its serial lies and blame game against the PDP since it assumed power more than two years ago, the statement observed.
It maintained that the APC needed to be told that “its unwavering deception and manipulation against Nigerians could be likened to H. L. Mencken’s phrase of, “A lie that has attained the dignity of age.” Nigerians are already embittered and will not have a repeat of it in 2019; and we join them to say it is enough!!!”
PDP noted that the APC among other faulty claims had referred to the Nigerian economy before 2015 under the PDP as decadent, noting instead, the APC’s abysmal failure would indeed be the PDP’s scoring points in 2019 given that the remaining one year plus would make no difference to “the APC’s incompetence and crass ineptitude in political, democratic and public governance.”
While undertaking to shield the unsuspecting public from the “APC’s sworn deception,” the PDP pointed out that “it appears Nigeria is being ruled by the APC from her status in 1983; otherwise, this plethora of lies against evidence-based achievements of the PDP in the entire sector wouldn’t have arisen.
“But we have deemed it fit to continue reminding Nigerians of our unparalleled achievements while in governance mainly, that of the immediate past Administration of H. E. Dr Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR In line with Bo Bonneth, ‘For every reason there is to lie, there is a better reason to tell the truth.”
The PDP rubbished APC’s claim on achievement in the agricultural sector describing it as outrageous.
The statement argued: “We wish to specifically note one other outrageous claim by these leaders, that the APC has recorded huge success in the ‘Agricultural Sector’ – in crops such as: rice and grains; and for tubers like, cassava and yam by next year. Indeed, this is absurd and a loquacious claim as there is no evidence, except increased hunger and frustrations on Nigerians daily.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP did surpass the APC’s imaginations of growth in Agricultural Sector especially, in the Rice and Cassava productions that they made boast of. Below are some of our landmark achievements mainly by the Mid-Term of the PDP-led Administration of President Jonathan.
“The PDP Administration hinged the transformation of the Agricultural Sector on two major policy strategies: to eliminate corruption in the Sector and the strengthening of its Institutions.
“We make bold to state that these policy actions resulted in giant strides for the ‘Rice Crop’, where local production increased with evidence of rice brands like, Ebony, Ashi, Mikap, etc., and they sold in Nigerian markets; thereby, reducing importation of rice to the barest minimum.
“A bag of rice sold for N8,000 while under this APC, it’s cost is almost 3 times more. Also, thirteen new private sector mills were established to buy and process up to 240 metric tons of rice.
“We sponsored 50 young Nigerian youths in a 5-month training programme on rice production to Kenya and enforced strict measures on importers of rice to encourage local production. In this Sector, we provided job opportunities especially, for teeming youths but now under the APC, there are about 5 million jobs lost; the Sector generated foreign exchange and diversified the Economy; it created the E-Wallet System that stopped corruption in fertilizer distribution; and achieved a reduction of the National Food Import Bill among other positive interventions.
“On ‘Cassava Tuber’, record shows that the PDP Administration revamped several cassava processing companies in the Country such as: DATCO and Thai Farms alongside about 150 cassava processing SMEs who were in comatose condition due to the refusal of Flour Mills purchasing cassava flour.
“This success was recorded given the commercialization of cassava flour which resulted in the production of about 132,000 metric tons of processed cassava flour and consequent introduction of ‘Cassava Bread’ by two leading bakery companies in Nigeria, UTC and Butterland that contained 20% of cassava flour. We could go on and on!
“Equally, these men claimed to rebuilding the ruins of the economy by creating an economy that is dependent on what Nigerians produce that will impact on the people of the Country. Wao! When and how? You can only give what you have!
“Let us further remind the APC leaders that they inherited Nigerian Economy that was growing consistently at an average of 7% annually for 10 years which General Muhammadu Buhari admitted to in Chattam House in February 2015; and she was the Number 1 Economy in Africa valued at over $500 million USD, and also the Number 1 foreign investment destination (FDI) in Africa with projection to be among the top 7 growing economies in the World by 2016; a position she has lost woefully. As at May 29, 2015, the Economy stood at a single digit inflation while currently, it’s on high double digit with crunching hardship that have caused some untimely deaths on Nigerians due to economic inactivity and policy directionless of the APC.
“While we wait for the fizzling of this false Party, the APC in 2019, we want to pray it to show mercy on Nigerians by achieving at least 20% of its jumbo promises which are too numerous to mention. We wish to re-iterate that the so called ‘corruption war’ is already a failure as well as other facet of governance.
“Like it promised to defeat Boko Haram in two months but instead, the spate of bombings increased coupled with new wave of attacks on Nigerians, the herdsmen, agitations, etc. However, we will continue to salute the courage and sacrifices of the Country’s military commands who are contending with the deadly Boko Haram Group; what about making N1 equal to $1 but on the contrary, the APC has beat Naira face flat on the ground.
“Also, it is to pay N5,000 to unemployed youths, stop medical tourism abroad, stop fuel subsidy, among other failed promises. Nigerians know better now!
“To this end, let the APC led-Government be reminded that it is currently leading close to 6 straight quarters of economic depression (not recession) in the Country and we wonder why the empty boast from its leaders. In sum, the PDP administrations worked vigorously and executed sound policies, programmes and projects (not “body language”) towards achieving sustainability for Nigeria and Nigerians in environmental integrity, economic vitality, and social inclusion. The records are visible and accessible to corroborate our claim!”
