Paralympic Games: I want to break world record in powerlifting – Nigerian athlete

Latifat Tijani has won Nigeria’s first gold medal at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympic Games.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games gold medalist, Latifat Tijani, says her target is to break the world record in power-lifting in the next competition.

Tijani, who spoke, during her training session at Ijeja Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State, said as a champion, she’s striving hard to sustain the feat and break the world record.

She said “My target in the next Paralympics is to break the world record in power-lifting. I tried my best to break the record in the recently concluded Tokyo 2020, but I couldn’t meet up.

“But for the next Paralympics, my target is not only the gold medal, but also I want to break the world record.

“Very soon, I will be going for trials in Lagos to prepare for another Olympics. I have started to prepare myself. As you can see, I have been training. A champion can never relent, you must continue to strive if you know you want to achieve more.

“I wish to continue as a champion and I will never relent.”

Tijani described ‘Eba’ and ‘draw soup as secrets of her success in power-lifting.

“Eba and draw soup, that’s my secret. I don’t joke with Eba. Once I have eaten Eba and soup, anything that has to do with power-lifting, I will ‘fire’ it. I don’t want to know how heavy it is… After you might have eaten Eba, your body will be filled up and by that you would have gained stamina and power to do anything. That’s my secret, I don’t joke with eba.”
