There is an appreciable voters’ turnout in Saturday’s House of Representatives bye-election holding in Toro federal constituency of Bauchi state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is holding a bye-election to fill the vacant House of Representatives seat for Toro federal constituency in Bauchi state.
Only two parties, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presented candidates for the bye-election.
The APC has Nuhu Yusuf as its candidate while the PDP has Shehu Umar Buba as its candidate.
The APC candidate, Nuhu Yusuf is the current member, Bauchi state House of Assembly representing Toro constituency.
The election is being conducted in all the 11 wards of the federal constituency which include; Toro/Tulai, Tilden Fulani, Ribina, Mara/Palama, and Rauta/Geji.
Other wards are; Jama’a/Zaranda, Lame, Wonu, Zalau/Rishi, Tama and Rahama.
INEC has also created additional Voting Units in the polling units across the local government areas in order to facilitate easy access for voters in the bye-election.
This raised the number of polling units to over 1,500 Polling units and voting points.
Our reporter observed that there is an appreciable voters’ turn out in most of polling units he visited today.
At Tilden Fulani 02, Nabordo South, voters were seen casting their votes after being accredited.
Similarly, at Yolan 019 polling unit of Jama’a/Zaranda Ward, our reporter was informed that voting started as early as 8:30am.
Bauchi State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Afolayan James who was on a tour to observe Corps member serving as election officials expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election.
“I am really satisfied with the conduct of this election. The arrangement is excellent. Our corps members who were on a national duty are doing the job excellently well as they were trained to do.
“What I have seen so far is very encouraging. The corps members are feeling safe . I have not received any complain from any of them. As you can see, I am going round to see that, they are safe and free from any undue harassment,” he said.
