The Organisation of Africa Instituted Churches (OAIC), has charged Nigerians to shun violence and imbibe tolerance during the forthcoming elections in the country.
The organisation also tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on free, fair and credible elections while urging candidates contesting into different offices to accept results in good faith and allow peace and unity reign in the country.
Chairperson, Women and Children Department, OAIC, FCT Chapter, Senior Mother-In-Isreal, Faith Ifeayinchuckwu Aina, gave the charge at the first convention of the organization, held at the Christ Holy Church, Abuja.
Ifeanyichukwu said, the 2-day programme, with the theme: Peace and Unity, offered the women a forum for sharing their concerns, hopes, and aspirations to enable churches to minister effectively to the needs of their members and communities.
She described peace as absence of direct violence, war, fear and conflict at individual, national, regional, and international levels.
According to her, ideal peace reflects transparency in the society and eschews bribery and corruption, submitting that that peace, though beautiful but very difficult to achieve.
She further stated that, ”to achieve peace and unity in the country, stakeholders, private sectors, NGOs, public policy experts must play an important role in the vanguard.”
