Ikole Local Government Council in Ekiti State has advised youths against any form of violence that is capable of disrupting the forthcoming general elections.
Mr Gabriel Fasanmi, the Coordinating Director of the Council, who gave the advice in Ikole-Ekiti on Tuesday, said that any form of aggression in the area would not be tolerated.
He said that he had held meetings with security agencies such as the police, Department of State Security (DSS) as well as vigilante groups and other relevant stakeholders on how to ensure safety in the neighbourhood during the elections.
Fasanmi enjoined the youth in the community to remain law-abiding particularly during the coming presidential election, while voting for their respective candidates in a peaceful manner.
“I wish to advise the youths in Ikole community to be law-abiding during the forthcoming presidential election, holding on Feb.16.
“The council will not tolerate any form of lawlessness, riot or thuggery in any part of the town during the elections.
“I have informed the police and DSS to arrest any person caught violating election rules and regulations, and the apprehended persons would be prosecuted,” he said.
Fasanmi also called on parents to warn their children or wards on the dire consequences of engaging in any form of election malpractice.
