National Chairman of Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) Mallam Shitu Mohammed, yesterday, called on the National Assembly to revisit the devolution of powers so that states can develop with constitutional hinderances.
This comes as he boasted that their party will dislodged the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State.
According to a statement by the party, Mohammed while explaining why the party believes restructuring, during the inauguration of the Ekiti State executive of the party, said it was the only way to ensure development in the country.
He said “We equally believe that the country must be restructured for development and there must be devolution of powers to states so as for states to develop without constitutional hindrances that have slowed the pace of development in most states of the federation. We therefore appeal to National Assembly to revisit this bill that was voted against.”
While speaking on next year’s governorship election in Ekiti State, Mohammed said the purpose for his visit was part of efforts to “mobilize the state and get ready to take over government in the next year governorship election.”
He added “we begin a new democratic journey to salvage our dear nation and the unveiling of Ekiti chapter is very strategic in the South-west of Nigeria at this material time as we approach the governorship election latter this year.
“We call on the fountain of knowledge people to come and embrace APDA and take ownership of this newborn baby and nurture it to restore the old glory of Ekiti State”, he said.
He further said that APDA is an ideological political party that believes in mobilizing Nigerian youths and women to take charge of the destiny of this country.
“We have given 30% of appointive and elective position to women in our party 25% to youths and 5% to the physically challenged. This a departure from the way things were done in the past. No party in Nigeria today has giving such to this critical stakeholder before now.”
