The member representing Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, has urged the people of the state and Itu Local Government Areas, in particular, to treat as farce the rumours that the Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has anointed an individual to succeed him as governor come 2023.
He said when the time is ripe for such, Itu Federal Constituency would be favoured.
Edidem who is the coordinator of Mentain Peace Movement steering committee in Itu Local Government Areas, made the call while inaugurating the ward coordinating committees in the 11 wards of the LGA on Wednesday.
“The Governor says he has no anointed successor for his seat in 2023 and that is the truth, forget about all the rumours that there is someone somewhere that has been anointed, I can tell you that it is not true. When that time comes; I am one of those that would know and I want to assure you that the person will be from Itu Federal Constituency.” He expressed.
The lawmaker called on the people of voting ages in his constituency to secure their permanent voter cards (PVC) from the INEC office closest to them to make their votes count during the elections in 2023.
He urged party members who could not access party registration cards to take advantage of the online registration which, according to him, will commence soon Nationwide.
”Two persons per ward have been sent on ICT training, when they come back, they will start the online party membership registration and revalidation. You need to register. The revalidation exercise is for easy identification of genuine members as some persons have defected to other parties while some have passed on.” Edidiong disclosed.
THEWILL recalls that the state Governor, Udom Emmanuel has said in many fora that he is only waiting on God for the right successor and will not anoint anyone but would support who God will reveal to him.
Recall also that during the inauguration of the chapter steering committees, of MPM, the state coordinator of the movement and national legal Adviser of the ruling party in the state; the PDP Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem had assured that governorship in 2023 will certainly be zoned to Uyo Senatorial District of the state but the particular Federal Constituency was yet to be determined.
He had asked the people of Itu Federal Constituency to intensify their prayers as they may be favoured to produce the next tenant at the Hilltop Mansion.
THEWILL gathered from a reliable source that the Governor while having a closed-door meeting with the state coordinators of MPM had confided that he had no one in mind but would rely on them to scout for persons of proven integrity from Uyo Senatorial District, who will be trusted with the mandate to lead the state in 2023.
“If anyone tells you that Udom Emmanuel has anyone in mind as we speak: it is a lie. He only said it must be from Uyo Senatorial District. So someone can emerge from anywhere. I will only advise interested persons to be serious, committed to his/her aspiration”. The source who preferred anonymity stated.
Speaking, the council chairman, Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk called for conscious preparedness for the mandate which he described as huge and cannot be trusted to a people without unity of purpose and peaceful coexistence.
“My gospel to all of us is that there must be peace in Itu. No one will drop that level of mandate where there is no peace. Let every aspirant from Itu see each other as a fellow aspirant and not an opponent so that at the end of the day, whoever emerges will be supported by all of us. Our interest, our prayers are that Itu should produce the next governor of the state.” He stressed.
A Frontline governorship hopeful and the political leader of East Itam 5 Ward 8 in Itu Local Government Areas, Mr James Iniama appreciated the governor for the MPM initiative and called on the people of his ward, the LGA and the state in general to embrace the initiative of the governor and his Completion Agenda to ensure that he finishes strong in 2023.
Iniama reasoned that it is always a good thing to follow the plan and purpose of God for a people per time, saying that it will always lead to a safe arrival at the perfect will of God.
He expressed optimism that it was the perfect time in the purpose of God for the people of Itu Federal Constituency to produce the next governor of the state and call on all hands to be on deck to ensure that the will of God is not truncated by man’s inconsistencies.
Those inaugurated to steer the Ward’s MPM committee included: Elder Godwin Mbeke as coordinator, Mr Michael Ekiko as deputy coordinator, Hon. Udeme Utip as secretary among others.
