The governor of Zamfara State, Dr Bello Matawalle has distributor at least 993 cattle and 5,665 rams to different households in the state for Eid-el-Kabir celebration on Friday.
The governor told journalists in a statement that this year’s celebration would be unique in the state as he ensured even distribution of the cattle and rams to the people.
The statement hinted that the essence of governance was to improve the living condition of people, which he said his administration had focused on since it came onboard in the state.
The Eid-el-Kabir ceremony, a yearly celebration of the Islamic religion to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismael in fulfillment of his earlier promise to God, has remained a high point celebration to Muslims who use the day to honour God by demonstrating their love to the people and immediate neighbours.
The governor source said that Matawalle with the rams and cattle gifts had therefore became the first governor in the annals of the state to extend his hand of love and friendship to the good and peaceful people of Zamfara, a gesture many have commended.
He said: “This year’s El-edir-Kabir ceremony will be remembered in the state in many ways, because it marks the sharing of God’s blessings to the people of Zamfara State for the relative peace they have enjoyed since Dr. Bello Matawalle became the Executive Governor of Zamfara State and the participant in the ordinance of Allah injunction to all faithful in Islam.
“In the past, people give to the Governor as their own way of showing gratitude, which was targeted at winning government’s favour and trust. His Excellency Dr. Hello Matawalle (MON) has thus used this year’s forthcoming celebration to preach a new understanding, an understanding that implies that the governor should be the one to give.
“The governor has used this donation to show the people that he is a good father who cares for his children; he has shown that there is no age limit when it comes to a father supporting his children,” the statement said.
