The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has called on governments at all levels to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among kids as they plan re-opening of schools.
UNICEF Kano Field Officer, Saudat Basheer Abdullahi, gave the advice at the closing of a three-day workshop organised by the UN agency in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, (FMH); Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, (JPHCDA).
She, however, assured of UNICEF support in ensuring that schools are safe for kids to learn.
She also urged the both the federal and state governments to provide enough personal protection equipment (PPE) to health workers.
“Health workers are the first to come into contact with carriers of the disease. I believe that governments should also complement UNICEF in the areas of provision of personal protection equipment (PPE),” she said.
