The Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, on Friday said he was on the same page with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo that state police would go a long way in tackling the nation’s security challenges.
Lawan said this in an interview with State House correspondents after joining Buhari for Jumat service at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Osinbajo had on Thursday at a security summit organised by the Senate said state police was the way to go.
When asked if he was in support of Osinbajo’s position, Lawan said, “As a member of the adhoc committee on security and the review of security infrastructure in Nigeria, I believe that the suggestion by the Vice President that we should go the way of state police and even consider community policing, is a very good suggestion and we are going to take it on board in the National Assembly.”
Lawan expressed the confidence that the outcome of the summit which ends on Monday would go a long way in solving the country’s security problems.
