The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of seven nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The RECs would supervise elections at the state level.

Two nominees were however dropped by the lawmakers.

The confirmation followed the adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on INEC on the screening of the nominees.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Suleiman Nazif, who presented the report explained that of the nine nominees referred to the panel for screening, the Osun State nominee, Eric Olawale, did not show up while Akwa Ibom State nominee, Monday Tom, was stood down for further legislative action.

The confirmed nominees include Baba Abba Yusuf (Borno State), Segun Agbaje (Ekiti), Uthman Abdulrahman Ajidagba (Kwara), Cyril Omorogbe (Edo), Yahaya Bello (Nasarawa), Emmanuel Alex Hart (Rivers) and Mohammed Magaji Ibrahim (Gombe).
