The late Brigadier-General John Shagaya (rtd), former Minister of Internal Affairs and Field Commander of ECOMOG in Liberia, was on Saturday buried at his country home in Langtang North area of Plateau State with full Military honours.
President Muhammadu Buhari in his speech at the funeral held at the Church of Christ in Nigeria in Langtang, described late Shagaya as thorough-bred senior Military officer, highly regimented and strict in discipline throughout his military career.
Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Major-General Abdulrahaman Danbazau (rtd), said General Sagaya had an outstanding performance in the course of his military career, which earned him promotions up to the rank of a General in the Army before he retirement a to work for the good of the country.
Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State said Shagaya impacted positively on his life, both in politics and golf, saying it was the late politician that made him governor.
Lalong promised that his state government would immortalize Shagaya for the selfless service he had rendered to Plateau state and Nigeria in general.
Son of the deceased, Timbut Shagaya, said his father lived a worthy life without harbouring bitterness against any one throughout his life time till death .
Present at the service were former leaders, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, serving and retired Army Generals, senators, politicians and friends of the late Shagaya.
