As the outbreak of Lassa Fever begins to raise concerns in various states in Nigeria, a lawmaker in Ekiti state house of assembly, Princess Teju Okuyiga has tasked Ekiti people on cleanliness, in a proactive move to prevent an attack.
Okuyiga who is also the chairman, Ekiti assembly committee on Health, gave the advice against Lassa fever in a statement made available to newsmen, noting that the legislative arm would work closely with the executive towards preventing the outbreak of killer diseases in the state.
She noted that the disease had been recorded in neighboring states, and urged Ekiti people to take all necessary measures to prevent the outbreak of the disease in the state.
“We appealed to women to always cover their foods, water, and other items and endeavour to place them in spots where they could not be accessed by mice which is the major carrier of the disease.
“Clean your houses and make sure you wash your hands regularly, she pleaded.
“We, however, appeal to anyone who notices some symptoms of the diseases to report at the nearest hospital for necessary care so as to avoid further spread of the disease”, she said.
