Kogi assembly to empower hunters, vigilantes to secure communities

Kogi State House of Assembly is set to enact a law that will empower local hunters and vigilantes to provide adequate security to communities in the face of failing national security outfits.

The Speaker, Honourable Matthew Kolawole, gave the indication on the floor of the House in Lokoja during the plenary session where he called for concerted efforts to checkmate the activities of the “faceless marauding beasts” that are populating the state.

He attributed the urgent need to empower the men in the various communities to the inability of the council chairmen to manage security challenges in their domains.

He said that the lawmaking body would ensure that the men are adequately remunerated as well as empowered to ask questions when strangers are housed within their communities.

Kabba community in Kabba/Bunu local government area of the state that hitherto enjoyed serene environment was thrown into confusion recently when gunmen invaded the medium custodial centre, killed some security men and set free the inmates.

This was immediately followed by the attack on the Evangelical Church of Winning All in the same Kabba during a Sunday service where one person was killed and three abducted.
