The Federal Road Safety Corps in Ekiti State has raised the alarm over rising accident rate along Ifaki-Ado Ekiti Road due to potholes on the road.
The command said a large portion of potholes on the road had made some motorists to be driving against traffic and thereby causing accidents.
Speaking with our correspondent in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, the state Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Olowo, said no fewer than five head-on collision accidents had been reported in the last few days in the area.
Warning motorists to obey all traffic rules, especially during this El-del Kabir period, he appealed to drivers to maintain their lane and avoid driving against the traffic.
Olowo said victims of the accidents had been rushed to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, for treatments.
“General motoring public traveling in and out of Ado Ekiti should drive carefully during this festive period. Especially motorist passing Iworoko-Ifaki axis to be extra careful because of the bad portion of the road Immediately after Iworoko Police Station.
“We urge motorists facing oncoming vehicles to desist and use their appropriate lane gently to avoid a collision.”
Olowo said the Federal Road Maintenance Agency had been notified of the potholes.
However, our correspondent observed that the potholes had not been filled as of press time.
