The police command in Ekiti on Friday confirmed the killing of a police officer as gunmen allegedly abducted a Chinese expatriate in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

Suspected gunmen at the weekend stormed a rice mill factory and shot one Alhaji Isa Abubakar, who died a few hours after in Kano, Kano State.

The incident happened around 10:00 p.m. last Saturday, according to an eye witness.

A source told journalists that the gunmen stormed the rice mill factory on Zoo road, adjacent to Ado Bayero Mall in Kano.

“They attempted pulling out one man from his car, but he initially resisted. Eventually, they threw him out of the car and shot him in the chest,” the witness said.


Spokesman of the state police command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident yesterday, saying the police had swiftly reported to the scene after hearing the gunshots.

He added that on arrival, they chased the gunmen, who eventually abandoned the snatched vehicle and ran away.

Kiyawa further stated that the police also rushed the victim to the hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
