Armed mobile policemen, have taken over Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos, proposed venue for a protest code-named “Amotekun Solidarity Walk” organised by Yoruba World Congress.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command are persuading men and women who have gathered in Lagos to protest against the position of the Federal Government on the South West security initiative, Operation Amotekun.

The Yoruba World Congress, an umbrella body of all Yoruba socio-cultural and Self Determination Groups within and beyond Nigeria, organised the protest.

However, as early as 7am, two hours before the protest scheduled to begin at 9am, policemen from the Lagos State Police Command had arrived at the Gani Faweyinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, where the protesters were to take off.

The Secretary General of the YWC, Prof. Anthony Kila, confirmed the development to newsmen.

Kila, however, said there was no dissuading them from embarking on the protest.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had a day after the launch of the outfit in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, described it as illegal.
