Air strike: Yobe governor demands probe, orders free treatment of victims

Governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under the aegis of the Progressive Governors Forum have passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman, CECPC, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and his Committee Members for their outstanding performance in rebuilding the party.

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has called for an investigation to unravel the root cause of the jet shooting that claimed lives in Buhari village, Yunusari Local Government area in Yobe State.

Newsmen report that at least 8 persons were killed while several others sustained injuries when an aircraft fired shots on residents on Wednesday morning.

Air Force Spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, had earlier distanced the force from the incident.

In a statement by his Director-General Press and Media, Mamman Mohammed, the Governor commiserated with families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.

Buni said although it could have been an accident or mistaken target, the government will join hands with the security agencies to unravel the root cause of the incident.

Buni directed his Special Adviser on Security Affairs, to liaise with the Nigeria Airforce and the Multi-National Joint Task Force, to look into the unfortunate Airstrike.

“Government will work closely with the security forces especially the Nigeria Airforce to establish what actually happened” Governor Buni assured.

“This is very important and necessary for us to guard against future occurrence and to safeguard the lives of our people.”

Buni also assured the preparedness of his administration to work with all security forces to ensure the safety of the state.

Meanwhile, the governor has directed government hospitals in Geidam and Damaturu to offer free medical services to those who sustained injuries from the airstrike.
