Two brothers, Hassan Moruf and Hassan Temitope were on Tuesday arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly defrauding a man of N800,000 meant for the purchase of land.
The bothers are facing a three-count -charge of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences and stealing, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Emmanuel Kayode, told the court that the accused committed the offences on December 21, 2015 at about 1:30 p.m.at Ogboja Village, Oluwo-Kessi, in Abeokuta.
Kayode said the duo conspired to defraud one Lawal Abdullahi of N800,000 by promising to sell two plots of land to the victim.
The prosecutor added that the accused persons fraudulently converted the money to their personal use and deprived the complaint of the land.
He said the offences contravened sections 516, 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Oriyomi Sofowora, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
