Police arrest eight suspected vandals in Ogun

Eight suspected mast vandals had been arrested in Gbalefu Village, Ajebo in Owode-Egba area of Ogun State by men of the state police command.

The suspects, police sources claimed specialised in vandalising telecommunication mast, and in the process steal pieces of valuable equipment therein.

The suspects were Tunde Adebayo, Adewole Saheed, Chinedu Eze, Isaac Dele, Henpery Evans, Emmanuel Otulo, Olaniyan Olayinka, and Jimoh Idowu.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following an information received by the Divisional Police Officer, Owode-Egba, Sheu Alao, that some men who came in a Ford bus with number plate EPE 613DJ had stormed the site where the mast belonging to one of the telecoms companies was mounted.

The suspects who were said to have vandalised the mast and had removed pieces of valuable equipment therein, were arrested at the site.

Oyeyemi said, “Upon the information, the Divisional Police Officer led his men to the scene where the suspects were rounded up.

“Recovered from them were a Ford bus with number plate EPE 613DJ, tools used in vandalising the mast, cash sum of N98,600, handsets, many ATM and identity cards.”

He said the the suspects had since owned up to the crime and made confessional statements.

Oyeyemi further explained that the suspects confessed coming from different parts of the country and met at ijebu Ode, from where they planned their operations.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Special Anti-Robbery Squad headquarters in Magbon, Abeokuta for further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects.
