The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) says it is optimistic that recent increase in the salaries of police personnel by the Federal Government would help check corruption in the organisation.

The Nigeria Police has arrested nine suspects over alleged involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery and cattle rustling in Katsina and Benue states.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Jimoh Moshood, an Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, said that the kidnappers were responsible for the abduction of two women which included the wife of a retired judge.

According to Moshood, Abubakar Ado, Muhammadu Murtala, Idris Usman, Alh Sani Lawal Alhaji Haruna Sani and Abdullahi, were arrested in Katsina State in connection with alleged kidnapping.

This was as he further disclosed that John Azashachia, Jacob Aondonnes, Tyan Denis, and Sango Vincent, were arrested in a hotel in Makurdi, as they were concluding plans to invade a filling station in the same town.

Specifically, Moshood said: “Ado confessed to have purchased AK47 rifle at the sum of N700,000.00 and have used it with his gang for several kidnappings and collection of ransom, and rustled hundreds of cattle in Katsina State.”

For suspects nabbed in Makurdi, Moshood noted thus: “The suspects, who travelled from Katsina- ala Local Government Area to Makurdi, Benue State, were arrested in a hotel in Makurdi while preparing to rob and kidnap people at a filling station in Makurdi. The leader of the gang, Azashachia, 26, is from Katsina-Ala, Benue State,. He confessed to have engaged in several kidnappings and armed robbery. His gang, according to him, was responsible for the kidnap of two women which include the wife of a retired judge.”
