Ogun: Police arrest ‘robber’ during operation

The Nigeria Police Force says its investigation shows that Boko Haram, Ansaru and other terror groups are getting support from some Nigerians.

Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber, Bolanle Ojomu, on Independence Day while he carried out a robbery operation at Ilese Ijebu.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Oyeyemi added that the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police in Ilese Ijebu divisional headquarters at about 12:30 am.

The PPRO said the police were hinted that some armed robbers were terrorising residents of Silva Estate Odomalasa Area of Ilese Ijebu.

He said, “Upon the distress call, DPO Ilese Ijebu Division, CSP Amuda Bolaji quickly mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene.

“The hoodlums, on sighting the policemen ran immediately, but, they were chased and one of them was apprehended with the assistance of members of the community, while others escaped.

“Recovered from the arrested robber was one locally-made gun with one live cartridge.”

Oyeyemi, however, said the Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Abiodun Alamutu has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

Oyeyemi added that Alamutu has also directed a massive manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang to bring them to justice.
