The Police Command in Ekiti, has arrested one Ojo Femi, for alleged armed robbery and possession of illicit substances.
Sunday Abutu, the command’s Spokesperson in a statement on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, said the suspect was arrested at Atikankan area of the state capital, following a tip off.
Abutu said the hoodlums took to their heels when the command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) stormed the hideout on Aug. 20 but Femi was arrested in the process.
He said the scene was searched and items such as 43 wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp and 40 wraps of white powder suspected to be cocaine were recovered.
Abutu listed other items recovered to include: two sharp cutlasses and N52,750,00.
According to him, the arrested suspect claimed ownership of the exhibits recovered and also confessed to be a drug baron, adding that efforts were underway to arrest the suspects at large.
Similarly, the command also rescued a kidnapped victim, identified as Alabi Segun in Ilefon Street, Iye-Ekiti in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti.
Abutu, while confirming the rescue of the victim, said two vehicles were also recovered in the operation.
He said the command on Aug. 19, received a distress call that unknown gunmen, numbering eight and suspected to be kidnappers, had invaded the residence of the victim.
“The kidnappers captured the victim and whisked him away in a Toyota Camry car to an unknown location.
“The suspected kidnappers, after a while, started calling through a particular GSM number, demanding for ransom from the victim’s family,” Abutu said.
Abutu said upon receipt of the information, the command’s RRS swung into action and trailed the suspected kidnappers to their hideout.
He said the kidnappers on sighting the RRS operatives, took to their heels and abandoned the victim and two Toyota Camry cars.
The command’s spokesperson said the victim was rescued and the two abandoned cars recovered, just as efforts were ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
