A 35-year-old man, Adedapo Obalola, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja magistrate court, Lagos, for allegedly collecting N1.2 million under the pretext he would secure a client, Kemi Fawole, a residential apartment.

Obalola was arraigned on a two-count charge of false pretence and stealing of N1.2m, property of Fawole.

The prosecutor, Inspector Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offences at No 4/6, Tomoloju Estate, Yaya Abatan, Ogba, Lagos, on June 22, 2018.

Fawole told the court that Obalola collected the money from her with a promise to secure for her a three-bedroom apartment. She added she realised later that the accused had converted the money to his personal use and was also deceiving her.

Obalola, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs Jadesola Adeyemi, granted him bail of N100,000, with two sureties and adjourned the case till December 12, 2018.
