Hoodlums suspected to be members of a street vigilance outfit operating within Unity Close, in the Ada George area of Port Harcourt, on Saturday, attacked and injured a 28-year-old tricycle rider, Goodluck Akarabara.

It was learnt that the victim, who hailed from Akwa Ibom State, was accosted by the group after he closed the day’s work and parked by the roadside to rest.

The victim claimed that the hoodlums stole his mobile phone and stabbed him in different parts of his body.

“They called their friends, who came out from Unity Close with machetes. They tried to drag me into the street because they are members of the Unity Estate vigilance group and when I refused to follow them, they stabbed me five times and stole my phone. What I need in this matter is justice,” he added.

Newsmen learnt that one of the suspects, identified only as Michael, was arrested by policemen from the Ada George division around 2am on Sunday.

A spokesman for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect would soon be charged to court.
