Malikah Shabazz, one of the twin daughters of slain human rights activist, Malcolm X, has died at 56.
She was found dead in her home in Brooklyn, New York, according to reports on Monday. Authorities said nothing seemed suspicious as she was found by her own daughter.
Her death was announced on Twitter by Bernice King, the last child of Martin Luther King. He wrote “I’m deeply saddened by the death of #MalikahShabazz. My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X. Dr Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak when Brother Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah”.
Malikah is one of the six children of Malcolm X and his wife, Betty Shabazz. Before her death, Malikah had several run-ins with the law enforcement on charges of larceny, forgery, property and identity theft.
Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965 at age 39. While Betty died in June 1997 at age 63, about three weeks after suffering severe burns in a fire started by her 12-year-old grandson.
